RIO FERDINAND has handed Manchester United a huge boost to their Champions League semi-final against Arsenal for Tuesday match.
In the latest twist of the football bout between Manchester United and Arsenal, the United have been given a lift before their Champions League semi-final, second leg against Arsenal at the Emirates tomorrow after Rio Ferdinand returned to training.
It had been feared that Ferdinand would miss tomorrow's match after suffering damage to his ribs and a bruised lung in the first leg at Old Trafford last week on Wednesday after a clash with Edwin van der Sar, the United goalkeeper, during the game. But his presence on the Carrington training ground this morning suggests he will face Tuesday's Champions League semi-final second-leg with Arsenal. And this would be the Manchester United gift to his team.
The United have injury anxieties over Patrice Evra, who was replaced by Rafael in the 78th minute against Middlesbrough after sustaining a leg injury.
If Evra is ruled out, Alex Ferguson might consider switching last week's goalscorer John O'Shea to left back and bring Rafael Da Silva into the right back position.
However, another option could be Gary Neville, who was also at training today after a recent foot injury.
But Ferguson could utilise either Rafael or Jonny Evans, who replaced Ferdinand on 87 minutes against Arsenal, at left-back.
