Everyone loves Christmas, so what better way to help celebrate the day
than with a lovely bottle of personalised white wine? After all, a good
bottle of white is as Christmassy as chestnuts on a open fire, turkey,
board games and a grandparent falling asleep in the corner. Factor in
the obligatory, bumper-sized tin of choccies that always seem to find
their way into the lounge, and that’s your Christmas afternoon nicely
taken care of.
As for the white itself, there are three varieties to choose from. The
first is a delicious Chilean Sauvignon Blanc that’s bursting with aromas
of cut grass, lemon zest and gooseberries. It’s also refreshing and
crisp on the palate, with a lively acidity and vibrant flavours of ripe,
tropical fruits. As for what it goes with, it’s lovely with salads,
seafood.
The second option is a crisp, dry Vin de Pays from the sunny vineyards
of southern France. It’s made using a blend of maccabeu and vermentino
grapes which are cold fermented to preserve the fresh lemony aromas and
apple acidity. The result is a fresh white wine that’s ideal with fish,
salads, poultry, cold buffets or as an apperitif.
And finally, there’s the best of the bunch – the Appelation Controllee.
This Grand Vin De Bordeaux, from Chateaux Montcabrier, is a delicious
Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, made using grapes harvested at day break to
preserve aromatic freshness. The result is a wine with exuberant
overtones of grapefruit and green apple that’s fresh and vibrant on the
palate. It’ll go wonderfully with chicken or fish, but is equally at
home as an aperitif.
